TARGET VIRTUAL AIRTIME CARD (VAC) OVERVIEW

Problem statement: For the Virtual Airtime Cards to be sold at Target, it was important to have a Target-branded mobile experience to gain trust and confidence from the consumer as well as make sure that Target would be happy that they are a part of the VAC experience and that the transaction is not exclusively Tracfone branded. The old experience seen to the right, had no Target look to it so Target customers were concerned when they launched it because there was a visual disconnect.

To purchase a service plan the customer simply has to text 611611 and type TGTAIR and the site will launch. From there they can peruse the different brands and choose what is the best for them. Then they simply go to the cashier have the barcode on the screen scanned, pay, and activate the plan. Simple Mobile, Total Wireless Tracfone, and Net10 are the brands offered.

This solution avoids any issue with a service plan being out of stock and it also helps customers who don’t have credit cards to purchase the plan they need.

In testing, users explained that they did not trust websites without images of people. They feel that lifestyle imagery helps add credibility to a site so I added a woman in a Target red top, looking at her phone on the landing page. The service plan brand “bubbles” to the right of her were designed to provide scalability to the design as more possible brands could be added. With this approach, the user can vertically scroll through the additional brands.

earlier concepts

Scroll the carousel below to view some of the early landing page concepts. Initially, there were only going to be three brands available but then Net10 was added. Having the brand “bubbles” vertically aligned on the right provides a more scalable solution if more brands in the future need to be added.

implementation

The XD prototype and all the assets were handed off to the developer to help them with the navigational structure intended for the website, as well as the primary user flow, animations, interactions, and the internal linking of the site.
